January 2017 Ipsy Bag Review

Hello fellow internet bloggers!  I've been wanting to get my hands on an Ipsy subscription since it
first came out when I was in high school. Thankfully for Christmas I was able to get my hands on a subscription!  For those of you who don't know what Ipsy is, let me enlighten you.  Ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription that sends you mini products based on your beauty profile.  Each month costs $10 per glam bag.  With each glam bag you get 4-5 sample products with a mini makeup bag. Each month also has it's own theme.  Based on this theme, it influences what type of products you receive!  To get started on Ipsy you need to set up a profile.  This profile allows you to customize the products you'd like to receive.  How you do this is by choosing your skin, eye, and hair color, beauty products and brands that you prefer, skin issues that you'd like to have helped, and what color makeup products your more likely to wear.  Don't worry, none of these customizations are set in stone which means if your taste or interests changes, you're able to go back in and re-customize your profile!

For my profile I put that the products I'm most interested in are eyeshadow, contouring, brows, mascara, eyeliner, face care, lip products, concealer and tinted moisturizers, blush, primer, and brushes.  The make up colors I prefer for eyes are neutrals, greens, plums, and smokey and eyeliner as black.  For lips I prefer reds, neutrals, and berry colors.  The color of blushes I like are pinks, neutrals, and mauves.  Lastly for my skin troubles they are redness, fine lines/winkles,  acne and blemishes, and pores as well as oiliness.

This month's glam bag, January 2017, I received a nice range of products. The theme for this month was "Metropolis".  For this theme I received: 1 Glam bag, 1 eyeshadow, 1 blush, 1 face primer, 1 bronzer, and 2 face mask sheets.  All of the products I received I have used at least once (obviously the face mask sheets only once each).  Now onto the individual products!

Our first product is the Manna Kadar Cosmetics Fantasy 3-in-1 eyeshadow.  On Ipsy's site the three ways they suggest you use this eye shadow are 1.) on your collar bone or cleavage for a dewy look 2.) in the inner corner of your eye to brighten up your eyes and 3.) on the brow bone to lift the eye and make yourself appear more awake.  Personally, I really like putting this shadow on the middle to inner corner of my eye.  I find that this brightens my eyes up more than just applying it to the inner corner and brow bone.

Our second product is ModelCo BLUSH Cheek Powder in "Peach Bellini".  The application of this blush is light so to make it really pop, you might wanna add a couple applications on it with a blush brush.  There are little shimmers within this blush that helps illuminate the face.  I feel like it is a bit more on the chalky side than a buttery feel.  Despite this, I love the pay off I get once adding a layer or two of it.  For those who love a more natural colored blush, this one is for you.  Due to the coral color it isn't too red, pink, or orange.

Our third product is the Temptu base smooth and matte primer.  This is probably the product that I'm the least wowed with.  On Ipsy's site, they claim that this product isn't too greasy and leaves skin feeling silky smooth without any residue.  When I swatched this on my hand, it felt greasy to me.  This may because I'm a bit hyper sensitive to certain textures though.  After giving the product sometime to sink into my skin, I saw a bit of shine in the light.  I don't really have a problem when primers have a shine but with the product stating it is supposed to be matte, I'm a bit on edge.  I will say though that the product did minimize the look of lines on my hand as well as hair follicles.  This is the one product I haven't actually used more than once when I swatched it.

Our fourth product is theBalm Bahama Mama bronzer.  I absolutely love theBalm's packaging for their products.  They have such a vintage feel to them which I'm a sucker for.  Bahama Mama can be used to give the face an all over sun kissed glow or to contour with.  Since I enjoy how fair my complexion is I use bronzer to contour with.  This bronzer is matte and has brown undertones so you don't have a more orange color payoff.  The only complaint I have about the packaging is that it is a bit hard to use a contouring brush to pick up the product.  It is understandable though since this is a sample size product.  The color payoff though is lovely and has a buttery texture to it which I love!

Our fifth and final product is Sally's Box Love Recipe sheet face masks.  The two sheets I received were the Acaiberry and Aloe masks.  I really appreciate that Ipsy sent two face masks instead of just one.  Both of these masks are to help with dull and dry skin.  They say that once you use each mask for 10-20 minutes, your skin will be left smooth, radiant, and glowing.  The Acaiberry mask specializes in keeping skin radiant and firm.  This was my least favorite mask out of the two.  Only reason why is because it made my fingers feel a bit like silicone after I massaged the excess liquid into my skin after 20 minutes.  It did leave my face feeling moisturized and soft.  The Aloe mask specializes in moisturizing and smoothing the skin.  This was my favorite one because how light weight it left my face feeling.  Both of these masks did make my skin appear brighter and less dull which can never be a bad thing!  I prefer wearing them for 20 minutes to give my skin enough time to soak up all the goodness that the masks contain.  Once the 20 minutes pass, I massage what is left over into my skin and carefully around my eyes so they aren't left out either.  With what it left over in the package the mask sheet was in, I massaged that on my neck and right under my chin.

For my first Ipsy bag of the new year and ever, I really enjoyed what I received.  My mom has an Ipsy subscription as well so I've been able to test out the products she doesn't care for.  Testing out what she received was what really made me seal the deal and get a subscription.  I can't wait to see what arrives for February's glam bag.  Fingers crossed that I get a brush next month because one can never have enough makeup brushes!  Have you guys had a beauty subscription or an Ipsy subscription?  Let me know which ones you like the best and your experiences.

Survive until next time my fellow internet bloggers!
